Sacred Historic Origins

A Beacon of the 18th-Century Buddhist Revival

Established during the late 18th century (circa 1780s) during the historic Buddhist revival in the Panadura and Raigam Korale region, Madavilgoda Sri Vishuddharama Purana Viharaya was founded on sacred land generously endowed by the noble philanthropist Vidanarala Manatunga Gabriel de Silva.

Belonging to the prestigious Amarapura Siri Saddhammavansa Maha Nikaya, the monastery preserves a venerable lineage of scholarly monk leadership — from Ven. Pinwatte Jayathupala Thero (1880s) and Ven. Pinwatte Saddhananda Thero to current Chief Incumbent Ven. Pinwatte Anuruddha Thero.
